Redcurrant berries are the early summer jewel in the garden ripening in time for the December festive season. The small bright red fruit hang in little trusses. They can be eaten fresh loaded with Vitamin C, and are the perfect accompaniment for desserts, cheese platters, used in baking, summer pudding, sprinkled on porridge and blended with other berries for a lovely summer berry salad. The fruit are also used for making redcurrant jelly to go with various savoury dishes. Fruit are high in pectin and are great for jam makers.
